Romeo and Juliet review at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield – ‘Outstanding performances by a youthful cast’
was the opinion of just one reviewer amongst many glowing reviews of the Crucible’s new production of Romeo and Juliet that Claire, Danny and I had the pleasure of taking 11 Talbot students to see yesterday.
I’m delighted to report that not only did we all agree with the reviewer, but Talbot students were also outstanding as, impeccably behaved, they sat mesmerised by this exciting production. During our recent GCSE Performing Arts lessons we have studied stage fighting techniques so the students all know how to make a fight look and sound authentic without making contact with anyone, so Tameeka, Brandon, Callum, Maddie, Steven, Eryn, Jacob, Cade, Hayden, Abbie and Ryan were thrilled to see professionals in action, making their fight scenes look authentic. I’m also proud to report that all our students remembered the Shakespearian text they’d learned during our own production of Romeo and Juliet, nudging each other when they recognised text and Steven exclaiming, ‘They ended the play with my line!’
Our theatregoers were also interested in watching the other secondary schools that were present and were impressed by all the smart uniforms on display. Two of our young men said not only did they want to wear shirt and ties but that they’d be raising the matter at the next Talbot Student Council – watch this space!!
