On Friday December 5th Talbot students took part in the NSPCC Number Day raising funds for the organisation and taking part in lots of maths activities based around the number five.
The idea was to make maths accessible and fun but also challenging. The day was a great success with students creating collages and sculptures, using their hands to make Christmas wreaths, singing number rhymes, playing number games and taking part in five aside sports activities.
Mazhar Hussain’s class also led sports activities for the rest of the school based around the number five and Paul Moohan’s class set up Maths activities in their class for other students to enjoy.
We asked parents and carer’s to sponsor their children (sending in 5ps and 50ps) and we raised £166.
Making Maths fun and relevant to students is very important at Talbot and this day showed how raising the profile of Maths in this way really supported and extended student’s learning.
